Andrei lives on São Miguel in the Azores. In the week of 24–30 August, a few days after a Canada trip, he flies alone to Terceira. He stays by the water in Porto Judeu, with views toward Pico, São Jorge, and Ilhéu das Cabras. Garden breakfasts. Espresso by the car. Local BBQ. A beach day and lunch in Praia da Vitória. His first Terceira bullfight. A boardwalk walk and a rain cave. Then the flight home to São Miguel.

A cabin kitchenette, finally

Ricky and Victoria have been finishing a small cabin in rural Portugal. On 30 August they post the install of the one thing it still lacked: a kitchenette. Tiny-space cooking, day-to-day DIY, rescue dogs, and the long work of bringing an off-grid farm and stone house to life. Exact town isn’t named in the film.

Paper costumes into the Atlantic (Foz do Douro)

On 30 August in Foz do Douro, Porto, about 700 people walked in handmade paper costumes — a record for the Cortejo dos Trajes de Papel de São Bartolomeu. Neighbourhood groups and schools had spent months turning crepe paper into figures under the theme “Fábulas e Lendas” (fables and legends). The route ran toward Praia do Ourigo. Many finished by walking into the Atlantic — the “banho santo” — so months of work dissolve in salt water on purpose.

Festival do Crato opens inland

On 25 August in Crato, Portalegre district in the Alto Alentejo, the Festival do Crato opened with a free first day and nights of music on a village stage. Beside it ran the 40th crafts and food fair through the end of the week. The point is inland Alentejo hosting culture — not a celebrity listicle. Observador on Festival do Crato’s opening.

Fuel week: efficient prices past $2

For the week of 24–30 August, Portugal’s energy regulator ERSE raised its weekly “preço eficiente” (efficient price) for road fuel. After taxes, that referential sat at €2.021/L (~$2.35) for gasoline 95 and €2.115/L (~$2.46) for diesel — up about 1.9% and 1.1% from the prior week. Numbers via Jornal Económico’s ERSE/Lusa report.

That figure is a referential, not a regulated or recommended pump price — stations set their own retail. Felt money at the pump, not a city rent budget.

Euro Exchange Rate

A quiet euro week inside 24–30 August. The European Central Bank’s dollar reference moved from 1.1664 dollars per euro on Monday 24 August to a midweek high of 1.1669, then closed Friday 28 August at 1.1643. Airports to collect biometrics (announced 27 August)

On 27 August, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro said that from 6 September Portugal will collect biometric data from 100% of non-EU passengers at its airports under the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) — typically a photo and fingerprints instead of a stamp. He flagged more operational pressure at the border. Plan extra airport time if you hold a non-EU passport.

This is Schengen border process for travellers — not a change to D7, remote-work, Golden Visa (ARI), or other AIMA residence-title rules. On those residence products, the 24–30 August coverage week was quiet: no in-window primary notice from AIMA, the foreign ministry visa portal, or the official gazette rewriting those routes.
